You can use Apple Pay to make contactless payments with your iPhone or Apple Watch in any store equipped with a card payment terminal.

Advantages

Contactless mobile payment is:

  • More secure than a card: each payment requires Face ID facial recognition or Touch ID fingerprint recognition;
  • Fast: payment takes less than a second. The customer is immediately notified of their expenditure;
  • No limit on amount: the customer can pay €1 or €1,000 using contactless payment.

Security

With every purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and a unique transaction code. The card number is never stored on the device or transmitted to merchants at the time of payment. Learn more.

Prerequisites

To use Apple Pay, customers must meet the following requirements:

  • have verified their identity;
  • create a card from the “Cards” screen in the app;
  • have a positive balance on the account linked to the card;
  • have enabled the “Abroad” and “On the Internet” options in the card settings;
  • own a compatible Apple device (iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, MacBook Pro with Touch ID) running iOS 8.0 or later;
  • be logged into an iCloud account with the “Cards” option checked;
  • have a security code set, Touch ID enabled, or Face ID configured.

Configuration

On IPhone

From the Sumeria application

The customer can click on the relevant card from the “Cards” screen in the app. This will enable them to activate the “Add to Apple Pay” option.

From the Apple Pay application

Customers can add their card directly from Apple Pay. Learn more.

On Apple Watch

From the “iWatch” app, customers can select “Cards and Apple Pay” to add a card.

For security reasons, adding a card to iWatch is different from adding it to an iPhone. The card is considered to be added to two different devices. However, if customers unpair their iWatch from their iPhone, all cards added to their iWatch will be removed for security reasons.

Limits

Unlike contactless card payments, there is no limit on the amount that can be paid using Apple Pay. Only the spending limits for the card in question apply. Learn more about the limits that apply.

The €50 limit applied to contactless payments made with a physical card does not apply to payments made via Apple Pay. Transactions are authenticated using the customer's fingerprint, passcode, or facial recognition.

If, during an in-store transaction, the customer is unable to pay an amount greater than €50, this means that the merchant's payment terminal has not been updated with the latest software.

Depending on the model, each device can store a maximum of 8 to 12 payment cards in Apple Pay.

Pay with Apple Pay in stores

When paying, there are only two steps:

  1. “Wake up” your iPhone or Apple Watch (by double-clicking the side button);
  2. Hold your iPhone or Apple Watch close to the payment terminal.

In both cases, a beep will indicate that the payment has been successful. The smartphone automatically detects the card payment terminal and opens the Apple Pay app on its own.

Buy online and in mobile apps

Some online stores and mobile apps allow you to select Apple Pay as your payment method with a single click after confirming your shopping cart.

  • From an iPhone or iPad: Touch ID fingerprint recognition is all it takes to authorize payment.
  • From the Safari browser on a Mac computer, where customers can authorize payment using Touch ID on their iPhone or iPad.

Notifications

When customers make a transaction via Apple Pay, they receive two payment notifications on their device by default: one from the “Cards” app and another from us.

To avoid receiving the same notification twice after a payment, customers can disable payment notifications from the “Cards” app so that they only receive notifications from Sumeria.

To manage payment notifications from the “Cards” app, customers should go to the settings on the “Cards and Apple Pay” screen. They can then disable notifications under “Transactions.” Learn more.

Card management

Customers can manage their different cards from Apple Pay by going to the “Cards and Apple Pay” screen. They can then choose their default card, add or remove cards, and select their preferences. A removed card can be added again.

The default card is the card that appears when customers launch the “Cards” app on their iPhone or wake up their device by bringing it close to the payment terminal. Learn more.

Fees and usage limits

There are no additional fees for using Apple Pay. The card's limits and conditions apply when using Apple Pay. Learn more.

Termination

The customer can cancel the Apple Pay service at any time from the “Settings” section of their “Cards” app.

Deleting this card will also delete its transaction history displayed in the “Cards” app. These transactions will still be available in their Sumeria history.
